About the author

Ron Easthope has a keen interest in medical history and is honorary archivist, Wellington Hospital. He is also an active member of the Wellington Medical History Society. A native Wellingtonian, his association with the hospital extends back more than 59 years, starting with university vacation jobs including cleaner, X-Ray department porter and nurse orderly. Upon graduating in medicine from Otago University he was back at the hospital as house surgeon and registrar before proceeding to the UK and Canada for postgraduate studies. He returned to Wellington Hospital as whole-time cardiologist in 1969, a position he held until retiring in 2000.
